The “Groupement des Exportateurs de Litchi” (GEL) or Malagasy Lychee Exporters Group was founded in 2001. Comprising currently about forty members, (see sections Our Members), the GEL operates in 9 producing areas of Madagascar:
-
in the region of Toamasina: Fénérive, Toamasina, Brickaville, Vatomandry
-
In the region of Manakara: Mananjary, Manakara, Farafangana, Vohipeno
-
and in the region of Taolagnaro

The litchi consists of a pink brown bark with the maturation and including scales (the fruit in the botanical sense), under which the party usually consumed, a white gelatinous substance. This is not strictly the result that we consume, but a production of the seed husk, aril. The litchi is a majestic tree that can be measured between 12 and 20 meters, but also a delicious fruit and rare to discover! |

Missions and objectives
The GEL adopted as a vision “the
standardisation, the development, the promotion and the sustainability
of the sector». Its strategy is based on this vision and the Group’s
missions are then :
Taking
the role of interlocutor and interface between government, other public
collectivities, the various programmes and projects as well as the operators
involved in the sector;
Representing
the profession with the various support organisms, the domestic and foreign
partners;
Implementing
rigorously by monitoring the sector’s policy with the technical
and financial partners
The Group has set the following principal objectives
:
Providing
a "quality label" to the lychee of Madagascar;
Securing
commercial transactions;
Reinforcing
the marketing structure;
Maintaining
and expanding Malagasy Lychee’s position on the traditional
markets and opening to new markets;
Sustaining
the industry;
Strengthening
the regulations and enforce their application;
Collecting
and informing as appropriate by updating statistical data.
